چکیده

We exploit the framework of diverging viewing-lines where cameras do not share the common field of view, and propose a method for incrementally estimating ego motion using two mounted active cameras. Our method independently controls the two cameras so that each camera automatically fixates its optical axis to its own fixation point. This camera control allows diverging viewing-lines of the two cameras and leads to accurate ego-motion estimation independent of the baseline distance between the two cameras. We show that the correspondence of the fixation point over two frames together with the displacement field obtained from optical flow nearby the fixation point gives us sufficient constraints to determine ego motion.

Active Wearable Vision Sensor —Detecting Person’s Blink Points and Estimating Human Motion Trajectory—

To realize versatile real-time man-machine interactions based on understanding human intention and activities, we develop an active wearable vision sensor. The sensor consists of the detector of person’s viewing lines and two active cameras. First, we establish a method for calibrating the sensor so that it can detect person’s blink points accurately even in a real situation such that the depth...

Visual Odometry based on Transitivity Error Analysis in Disparity Space - A Third-eye Approach

Accurate estimation of ego-motion heavily relies on correct point correspondences in the context of visual odometry. In order to ensure a metric reconstruction of camera motion, we can refer to the 3D structure of the scene. In this paper we present an indicator for evaluating the accuracy of stereo-based 3D point measurements as well as for filtering out low-confidence correspondences for ego-...

Investigation of Dynamic View Expansion for Head-Mounted Displays with Head Tracking in Virtual Environments

Head mounted displays (HMD) are widely used for visual immersion in virtual reality (VR) systems. It is acknowledged that the narrow field of view (FOV) for most HMD models is the leading cause of insufficient quality of immersion, resulting in suboptimal user performance in various tasks in VR and early fatigue, too. Proposed solutions to this problem range from hardware-based approaches to so...

Ego-Motion Estimation Using Optical Flow Fields Observed from Multiple Cameras

In this paper, we consider a multi-camera vision system mounted on a moving object in a static threedimensional environment. By using the motion flow f ields seen b y all of the cameras, an algorithm which does not need to solve the point-correspondence problem among the cameras is proposed to estimate the 3 0 ego-motion parameters of the moving object. Our experiments have shown that using mul...

A Tool for Kinematic Error Analysis of Robots/Active Vision Systems

In this paper a generic kinematic model for robot structure error analysis is built and then is extended to analyze an active vision system. An active vision system is a robot device for controlling the motion of cameras based on visual information. Because the models are derived from the Denavit-Hartenberg transformation matrix, differential changes for the transformation matrix and link param...
